Plans for the website

Ok Ive had a little think about what the website needs to become a bigger and better portal for information about Morzine and the surrounding areas of the Portes Du Soleil.
Here is a list of what to expect on the website over the next few weeks and months.

  1. Park Reviews of all the parks in the porte du soleil along with directions of how to get to them from Morzine.
  2. A picture archive of of peoples times in Morzine, from myself during my season and any from you lot also.
  3. Reviews of places to eat in Morzine along with their drinking establishments!
  4. Off snow activities that are also available if you've had enough of being up the mountain on a board or skis.
  5. Services available in Morzine such as Off Piste Guides, Heli Boarding (only available over the swiss boarder)

Looks like Morzine is in for some snow! - 18/01/05

Ive just had an email through saying that there is an expected 50cm dump for Mid-Station (about 1638m) which means expect more higher up, probably around 60cm and its going to be getting cold down at the town level so its going to get VERY white! Keep an eye on the main Morzine Webcam

Plans for an overhaul - 17/01/05

The website is in need of some updating however the webcams are still in fairly good order and I have a number of new webcams to add. Im still planning on writing a guide for the bars and for the slope however if you have any opinions about anything to do with Morzine no matter how big or small then send me a quick email and I will put stuff up on the site. Also if you would like to have a link from our site to yours then let me know and I can put it on the links page.

Revamp - Update 21/06/04

Been sorting out a few dead links in the webcams - personally what I think is the most important part of the website. Ive found a load more webcams and will be putting these online in due course.
In the pipeline are updates to all the dead links at the side. My memory is crap but i'll try my best to get some more information up. Information about the Bars/Nightclubs, get some photos up and maybe a bit of a slope guide so you can find some of the best places to ride.

Hope there are enough people out there that care. Send me an email if you fancy it! Email Me

The Website! - Update 02/01/04

Ok we were a group of 15 people who did a season back in 2002/2003 but now we are no more. We had a fantastic time spending our 5 months living in Morzine, boarding all day every day. Now we're all pretty much back in the UK, working or in uni. After realising that the site is actually getting a few hits I thought it might be worth giving it a slight update. Even if it is just making sure that all the webcams are linking right etc. Im afraid it doesn't have everything that I was hoping it would. The original idea was to update it throughout the season with conditions and some more info about Morzine but that never really happened as there was no internet connection. We'll see how things go and I may update some of the site but it's just a matter of wait and see.

If theres anything you think I am missing then send me an email and I'll try and sort it out.

The Website!

We're a group of fifteen people. thirteen blokes, two girls, three skiiers and twelve boarders. We're all doing a season here in Morzine in the Portes Du Soleil. Its not long until we're actually out there. At the moment we're all just sitting here in the UK twiddling our thumbs just waiting for the time to come to get on that plane or get in that car to begin out journey to France, to our little chalet in the heart of Morzine and all its glorious snow!

Update - 01/12/02 23:00
Blimey!

Lots has been happening now!
Heres a bit of a round up for you.
There has been a lot of snow over the past few days - I think its time I deleted the 'Last Snow' on each of the webcams pages as its getting to be a bit of a handful now!
Morzine opened for business on Friday two weeks earlier than expected. 10% was open with 8 pistes and 5 lifts.
Avoriaz opened yesterday (Saturday) with 20% open.Check here for more...

Update 19:05 15/11/02
Not much happening

Not much is really going on in the Portes Du Soleil area just at the moment. Resorts are beginning to report to the online services etc as to how much snow they have. Some websites have reported there being 80cm of snow at the top in Avoriaz which is fairly good.

Morzine hasn't bothered to update anywhere yet, but there isn't much snow there at the moment anyhow.

We're in for a warm spell around tuesday and wednesday with temperatures at the summits just topping the above freezing levels!. Thats the first time in a while. Don't think much of the snow up top is going to melt really however as these temps are still relatively low.

I think we've seen a better first half of november than over recent years. So far (up until the 14th) we have had (in valdabondance) 79cm in total snowfall of which now equates to 27cm on the ground at the top. Thats a whole lot better than previous years, with 9.5cm and 7cm falling and staying on the ground at the top over the last couple of years.

Updates and whatnot...

There's been a new dump of snow in Avoriaz especially and up on the higher ground around Morzine and generally in the Portes Du Soleil. Check the pic and you'll see what I mean.
I've been on the phone to a mate who is staying in Geneva and they said they were up a couple of weeks ago just to have a look around etc. They went to Morzine and Avoriaz and there was snow at both. They said there was a foot and a half in Avoriaz which was fairly solid and a few people were out on their boards etc. Morzine they said had some snow but not much, it was more of a slush. Even so, this is all good. Expect something in the next few days in regards to my Predictions!

Update 23/10/02 21:00
Predictions on the Season...

Well, what do you expect? We can't predict when it is going to snow. We can't predict if this season is going to be a good one. It is something left up to luck I think. However! We can look into the past few years weather and hazard a guess at so how everything is going to pan out this season. So, what snow have we had so far? Is it usual to have snow at this time of year? Will this snow stay? When does snow usually fall? Is it the cause of El Nino? Read on for my opinion of things.

Update 21/10/02 14:30
After all that!

It seems as thought my predictions for some of the snow staying until the next fall are becoming less and less. At 2pm it was 7C at 1530m in Les Gets and the snow that we had seen boarded on over the weekend is well and truly melting. I thought there was more snow than there actually is. Oh well its early days eh...

Just compare this image to the one below and you'll see what im on about.

Update 21/10/02 10:00
Early Season Action in Les Gets
Surprising or not there has been a bit of action out on the slopes of Les Gets. Looking at the webcam over the weekend there has been a lot of movement with some snow-based fun. The Chair in the webcam has been running and I would imagine that there has been a fair amount of snow further up the slopes. Temperatures are not set to stay below zero however and I think that a lot of the snow that has fallen will melt before the next fall, not all however. Word has it that the temperatures will be dropping later on this week which will hopefully be the beginning on the winter snow base.

Update 20/10/02 17:00
Snow-forecast Weather Prediction.
The weather for the next few days looks a bit iffy to me. Never the less it is cooling down albeit with some rather warm patches in between the cold spells. Check here for a more in depth prediction.

Update 18/10/02 20:00
New Snow!

Last night snow fell across the whole of the Portes Du Soleil. The forecast is snowly (slowly!!) showing the weather cooling down. Temperatures have been well below 0C at the summits and slightly above at the lower stations.

Check here for more info.

Update 11/10/02 20:00
Current Weather: Cloudy 8C in Centre.
Currently checking every webcam in the whole of portes du soleil for even the slightest chance of some snow but nothing as of yet. The snow in the middle of September on in Avoriaz and the Hauts Azares etc is still lingering but that's about it. Check the webcam for more
